She took the plunge! Why?

I’ve been married for six years, and I can’t write about dating without feeling like I’m cheating on my husband.

But doesn’t this change things?

I did worry that it would betray the stance that you don’t have to be married to be happy. My own life is a model of that. [Laughs] Except for the fact that, oh yeah, I got married.

How autobiographical is Cathy?

When she’s weeping on the floor of the bathing-suit department, she’s someone else. When she’s together, she is me.

What will her mother do now that she can’t nag Cathy about getting married?

She can nag her about grandkids. It’s always the next thing.

So when’s the big day?

Sometime within the next year. They’re not a couple that can sustain a long engagement. I don’t want them to change their minds.

Don’t let them pull a J. Lo!

I promise you they are getting married. I hate those stories.

Phew. So what about the kids Mom’s going to nag about?

They might. That’s a possibility.
