Karyn Maria Gonzalez died in her mother’s apartment in Tempe, Arizona, on Sunday, May 16, according to the Arizona Republic.

Tempe police officers raced to the apartment after being alerted at 8:45 p.m., where they found Karyn with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Natalie Barela of the Tempe Police Department said on Tuesday that investigators believe Karyn found the gun under a piece of furniture and then shot herself.

Her father, Robert Gonzalez Jr., said his daughter was “bright and full of life” and described her as a “perfect little lady.”

He told the Arizona Republic: “She always said ‘please,’ ’thank you’ and said hi to everyone, no matter who they were or where they were from. If you sneezed, she would always say, ‘God bless you.’”

The mourning father told the outlet he had worked in construction for the past few years in order to provide for his daughter.

He said: “I worked from before sunrise to sundown every day just to make sure my daughter had shoes, clothes, anything that she wanted.

“I wanted her to have all the good things that I didn’t have or get taught when I was a kid - to be nice and wonderful to people.”

Police released a statement following Karyn’s death, which urged people to take care of where they kept their unsecured firearms.

According to Fox10, the statement read: “We want to take this opportunity to remind people if you own a gun, please keep it in a locked, secured, and in a safe place out of the reach of children.”

Gonzalez Jr. echoed the sentiment and told the Arizona Republic: “I want her name to be fully out there. This was no accident - adults need to watch out with what they do with their guns. Why do you need a gun when you have an angel like that on your side.”

He said he wanted his daughter to be remembered as his “princess who loved to sing and dance.”

Karyn was due to graduate preschool on Friday and move on to kindergarten. As of Thursday morning, no one had been arrested in connection with her death.
