On Monday the conservative posted an article titled “‘Twitter Files’ Make It Clear: We Must Abolish the FBI,” on his Ron Paul Institute website.

He said: “So, now we have proof that the FBI (along with U.S. intelligence agencies and the Department of Homeland Security) have been acting through “private” social media companies to manipulate what Americans are allowed to say when they communicate with each other.

“Is there anything more un-American than that? Personally, I find it sickening. We do not need the FBI and CIA and other federal agencies viewing us as the enemy and attacking our Constitution. End the Fed … and End the Federal Bureau of Investigation!”

Paul argued Twitter was “essentially an FBI subsidiary” during the “pre-Musk era,” adding: “It is becoming all too obvious that Federal agencies such as the FBI viewed the First Amendment of our Constitution as an annoyance and an impediment.”

Taibbi is one of a number of journalists given access to Twitter’s internal communication systems after Elon Musk purchased the social media giant in October.

On December 16, Taibbi wrote a 45-tweet thread about the relationship between the FBI and Twitter, revealing extensive contact between the federal agency and the company’s employees.

Taibbi claimed Twitter employees received “requests by the FBI for Twitter to take action on election misinformation, even involving joke tweets from low-follower accounts.”

He published an email, purported to be from the FBI, from November 6, 2021 “requesting assistance” from Twitter against 25 accounts, ahead of the mid-term elections.

According to Taibbi some of the accounts targeted tweeted “almost all jokes,” such as Twitter users telling either Republicans or Democrats, depending on their political leaning, to vote on the wrong day.

In a statement sent to Fox News responding to the emails’ publication, the FBI said: “The correspondence between the FBI and Twitter show nothing more than examples of our traditional, longstanding and ongoing federal government and private sector engagements, which involve numerous companies over multiple sectors and industries.

“As evidenced in the correspondence, the FBI provides critical information to the private sector in an effort to allow them to protect themselves and their customers.

“It is unfortunate that conspiracy theorists and others are feeding the American public misinformation with the sole purpose of attempting to discredit the agency.”

On Wednesday, Musk vowed to resign as Twitter CEO “as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job.”

Musk had posted a Twitter poll asking users if they wanted him to “step down as head of Twitter,” with 57.5 percent of the more than 17.5 million votes being for “yes.”

The FBI has been contacted for comment.
