CALL TO THE ‘PEN
A day after allowing three hits, including a go-ahead home run, in a tie game, Tampa’s Brad Boxberger served up a three-run homer on Wednesday, once again in a tied contest. Boxberger had been mostly lights-out this season prior to the previous two games, so it’s unlikely his closer’s job is in jeopardy – especially with Jake McGee serving up a grand slam on Tuesday – but he can’t afford many more big slip-ups. … Brad Ziegler blew his first save since taking over Arizona’s closer duties on Tuesday, surrendering a game-tying homer, a single, and two walks. It’s worth noting that one of the walks was intentional, and Ziegler should’ve gotten out of the inning on a double-play that wasn’t converted. Expect him to continue to serve as Arizona’s closer for the time being, but this situation is far from settled for the long-term.
WEATHER WATCH
There’s a 40-percent chance of showers in Baltimore for both legs of the White Sox-Orioles doubleheader and a 40-percent chance of showers in Texas for the Red Sox-Rangers.
