Jayson Werth, OF, Nationals. Werth hit a grand slam – with a fantastic bat flip – in a 10-7 win against the Marlins. Werth finished with five RBIs on the night and is hitting .345 this season.
Garrett Richards, SP, Angels. Richards and two relievers combined for a one-hit shutout against the Mariners. Richards improved to 2-0 with seven innings in which he allowed three walks with six strikeouts. He could be headed for a breakout season.
3 Down
Jimmy Rollins, SS, Phillies. Rollins went 0-for-4 and left four on base in a loss to the Brewers. Rollins is now hitting .222 and has left 13 on base in 29 at-bats.
Daniel Nava, OF, Red Sox. Nava went 0-for-3 with three Ks and left three on base in a 4-2 win against the Rangers. Given the way Jackie Bradley is playing, Nava could be the one who loses at-bats when Shane Victorino returns from the DL.
Phil Hughes, SP, Twins. Hughes struggled early in a no-decision against the Athletics and failed to take advantage of Target Field. He allowed four runs on five hits and three walks in five rocky innings. He’s still a hit-or-miss spot starter.
