Shab, the mother of five-year-old Kassie, shares her daughter’s accomplishments on TikTok under the handle @makeupbyshab, where many videos have gone viral. One clip from March 30 has amassed nearly 20 million views, depicting the evolution of Kassie’s skills since her toddlerhood.

In the video, Shab addressed the naysayers who “questioned” Kassie’s early interest in makeup and those who censured the mom for letting her child explore makeup at a young age. “When everyone questions you for playing with makeup so young…,” she introduced the clip in text overlay.

The footage then showed Kassie attempting makeup at around two years old, starting with smudged lipstick and eyeshadow all over her face.

“…But you’re just trying to be one of the best before you hit double digits,” Shab continued, as the next clips showed Kassie’s skills blossoming over the following years. By the age of five, Kassie became an expert personal makeup artist for her own mom, shaping Shab’s eyebrows, shading in smokey eyeshadow, gluing false eyelashes, lining her lips and perfectly contouring her face.

The video ended with the mom showing off her glamorous look and high-fiving her daughter, who gave the camera a sassy wink.

“Talent you have naturally but skill is only developed with hours and hours of beating your craft,” Shab captioned the post.

Although many parents are hesitant to let young children use makeup, there is no right or wrong age to start donning beauty products, according to pediatrician Eva Kubiczek-Love.

In an article on Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Kubiczek-Love said the “proper way” for kids to wear makeup depends on the family and the practices in each child’s community. The pediatrician did advise that parents take precautions to protect their children’s developing skin, including buying safe products, easing kids into wearing makeup by starting them with less, watching out for skin irritation and maintaining a healthy skin regimen.

Most viewers of Shab’s video were supportive of the makeup-loving family. In the comments section, many expressed their awe at the young girl’s dedication.

“What a little superstar!” exclaimed a viewer.

“This was her calling from day 1. She is so incredibly talented,” another agreed.

Another commenter expressed their appreciation for the mom, saying, “Thank you for embracing her talents/interests instead of putting her in a box and making it seem like it’s ’too grown’… you’re doing amazing mama.”

In a previous video, the pair explained that Shab herself was a makeup artist and Kassie became inspired by her mom.

“Kassie’s always been around makeup since she was a baby baby, three months onwards,” Shab said.

Kassie added that her mom never stopped her from playing with makeup. “Makeup is a good thing!” the five-year-old declared. “It means you learn how to do makeup good, it means you will be a makeup artist soon!”
