Heather Chisum said she was “furious” the employee at the Children’s Education Center of the Islands on Sanibel Island had written “mom, I need diapers, pls read my report” across the torso of her 18-month-old son Milo.

According to a January 27 Facebook post, which has been shared more than 32,000 times, the report refers to daily messages that the daycare workers leave in children’s lunchboxes for parents.

The messages are meant to inform parents how their child has behaved, what times their diapers were changed, and if they need any more diapers or wipes.

In the post, Chisum explained that she must not have read the note that particular day when she was informed that her son needs diapers.

“I’m a single mom with a full time job and two very young children. SUE ME FOR NOT READING THE REPORT EVERY SINGLE DAY,” she wrote.

“I guess yesterday they wrote on his report that he needs diapers, and I failed to see that. Now keep in mind, I see several teachers at drop off and several at pick up, if I failed to see that he needs diapers a simple, ‘Hey Heather, your son needs diapers maybe you missed the report’ would have done the trick from any of the many teachers there I see daily.

“But instead, I change his diaper this afternoon AND SEE THIS WRITTEN ON MY SON WITH MARKER.”

Chisum said the writing did not fully come of Milo’s body even after she used several wet wipes.

“I had plans to take them to the beach to play, and now I can’t because my son has writing all over him.

“In the very worst case scenario, I can’t see anything other than ’need diapers’ needing to be written. Why a big long message needed to be written across my son’s stomach is beyond me.”

Chisum also claimed that a similar incident occurred at the center “several months ago” without elaborating. Newsweek has contacted Chisum for further comment.

In response, the daycare center said they have apologized to Chisum and that the worker in question has been fired.

“We are aware of the incident at the school, and we are terribly sorry for the distress it has caused the family involved as well as all of our families,” Paul Harris Fellow, executive director of Children’s Education Center of the Islands, said in a statement to WINK.

“It was a breach of our professional ethics on the part of the teacher. The school has taken immediate action to remove the teacher from the school. We are reviewing protocols already in place to ensure that nothing like this occurs again.

“We are proud of our school, love our students, and are eager to make our school a better place as we move forward. We have met with the family involved. We understand and share their concerns and have ensured them that their children will always be welcome here.”

According to WBBH, Milo’s parents have since filed a police report and the Florida Department of Children and Families (FDCF) are investigating the center.

Both the Sanibel Island Police Department and the FDCF have been contacted for comment.
