I’ve divided the conferences (Democrats and Republicans) into pairs. To advance in the tournament, candidates will have to win their respective first-round matchups—in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina or, in the case of Democrats, Nevada. Winners move on to the Big Dance next Feb. 5, the mega/giga/tera national assemblage of primaries that is likely to decide the nominees. Surveying the conferences, it’s remarkable how neatly the candidates fall into their first-round pairings....

The drug, Voxzogo, is an injection to improve growth in children ages 5 and up with achondroplasia “and open epiphyses (growth plates), meaning these children still have the potential to grow.” The FDA said Voxzogo is the “first drug” to improve growth in children who are diagnosed with the condition. “Today’s approval fulfills an unmet medical need for more than 10,000 children in the United States and underscores the FDA’s commitment to help make new therapies available for rare diseases,” Theresa Kehoe, the director of the Division of General Endocrinology in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said in a statement....

The nest was found near Blaine, Washington, near the Canadian border and about a quarter mile east of where the first hornet was spotted August 11, the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) said in a press release. Between August 11 and August 17, WSDA staff tagged three of the murder hornets—also called Asian giant hornets—with trackers, as was done to locate a nest in October 2020. One slipped out of the tracking device, another was never located, but one eventually led them to the nest Thursday morning, according to the WSDA....

Pulsating stars are a type of variable star that increase and decrease in size periodically, causing a change to their brightness due to physical changes within the star. Researchers believe some stars should pulsate in certain parts, along the strong magnetic fields, but until now, evidence of them has been lacking. “We’ve known theoretically that stars like this should exist since the 1980s,” Donald Kurtz, from the U.K.’s University of Central Lancashire, said in a statement....

Police on February 16 arrested three administrators and two coaches at Midland Christian School on charges of failing to report abuse with intent to conceal, according to a press release the Midland Police Department provided to Newsweek. A report released by the U.S. Education Department in 2020 found the number of incidents of sexual violence in k-12 schools increased 55 percent between the 2015-2016 school year and 2017-2018. The number of incidents rose from 9,649 to 14,938 during that time period....
