The unnamed 72-year-old woman visited a local clinic six days after she cut open her left calf on a tree branch, according to a case study in BMJ Case Reports. The woman was hiking on a laval field when she lost her footing and impaled her leg on a branch close to the ground, the report said. She was given stitches and sent home with a five-day course of antibiotics....

Rotem Amitai, 43, was on board El AL flight 002 from John F. Kennedy Airport to Tel Aviv on March 26 when she got sick. Her condition deteriorated and she was moved to an isolated intensive care unit, after slipping into a coma and suffering brain damage. She was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis, which is a complication of the measles virus that is similar to having both meningitis and encephalitis. She died in Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, The Times of Israel reported....

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to the crash at about 6 p.m. local time after the plane “sent an emergency signal to the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.” Roughly an hour later, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Air One helicopter located the plane “about a mile north of the end of Lopez Road in Osteen, east of Lake Ashby.” After locating the downed plane, the Air One helicopter guided deputies “through thick vegetation and swamp,” the sheriff’s office said....

Caroline Melanie Lee, a 60-year-old English teacher at Darnell-Cookman Middle/High, in Jacksonville, was arrested Friday and charged with felony child abuse, according to Duval Schools Police. The incident occurred just two days after she received the award from the Duval Public School District. The altercation followed an online confrontation between Lee and one of her students in the comments of an Instagram post recognizing Lee’s award, AP reported. On Wednesday, the Duval County Public Schools Instagram account posted a photo of Lee and mentioned that she was named “Teacher of the Year....

Buildings at least 40-years-old will need to provide proof that they’re safe, within a 45-day period, or they could lose coverage. This comes after last week’s collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, which is just north of Miami Beach. Isidro “Izzy” Guillama, who’s CEO of the Miami-based ProCom Insurance Underwriters company specializing in condominium insurance, said an insurance company can cancel policies if buildings don’t comply. “Everybody has moved very quickly because they have a lot of liability, and a lot of risk,” Guillama said in the Miami Herald....

Hector J. Solis, 29, was taken into police custody after transporting his injured daughter to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office when she stopped breathing, according to WKMG-TV in Orlando. While officials tended to the child, Solis allegedly confessed to injuring his daughter, explaining that he lost his temper because his daughter had been “crying for the longest time,” according to body camera footage from the exchange. “I just got frustrated and started shaking her,” he said....

The tiger was being fed by its handler when the 50-year-old man entered the enclosure, where he was attacked by the animal, injuring both arms. The tiger was safely contained by the caretaker and was not injured, according to the sheriff’s office. It’s unknown why the man entered the enclosure at this time and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The same county saw another tiger attack take place in December when a man put his arm inside the enclosure of a tiger at a zoo in Naples, which led to the man nearly having his arm amputated after the tiger attacked him....

Nathan Garisto, 26, was arrested on domestic battery charges, after he reportedly threw a winter squash and its innards at his girlfriend at around 2 a.m. The Largo residents had been cohabiting for a year and a half, according to the police report, when the pair began arguing. The woman asked her boyfriend, who was intoxicated, to leave the property several times. He refused and his girlfriend claims he responded by striking her with a pumpkin, and throwing a tarp with pulp and seeds all over her....
