Jessica Hanson walked out of the Duval County Jail in Jacksonville on Sunday after pretending to be the other woman so she would be released, reported News4Jax. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) tweeted about the escape and alongside a picture of Hanson, was a message urging anyone who saw the 36-year-old to contact them. The JSO said Hanson had been located and taken back into custody 30 minutes after fleeing....

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) reported 8,577 additional virus cases on Sunday, its third consecutive daily report to identify at least 8,500 new diagnoses. The latest figure fell below single-day totals reported by the DOH on Friday and Saturday, when roughly 8,800 and 9,500 positive tests were confirmed, respectively. Still, numbers included in all three reports exceeded Florida’s previous record single-day increase, reported on Wednesday, by at least 3,100 cases....

On Tuesday, Charles Barnes, 64, was arrested and charged with voter fraud for allegedly casting more than one ballot, an arrest affidavit filed in court showed. There is no basis for the charge detailed in the arrest affidavit. On Thursday, Barnes entered a not guilty plea. He first registered to vote in 2019 in Sumter County. Barnes was not affiliated with any political party when he voted in 2020, according to online voting records, WKMG-TV reported....
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of August 1, Florida was reporting a seven-day average of new cases of 17,024, but this number was far lower just a month ago. As of July 1, Florida’s seven-day average number of cases was 1,839, which indicates over an 800 percent increase over the past month. Leon County Circuit Judge John C. Cooper is presiding over a three-day hearing to consider a lawsuit filed by Florida parents challenging DeSantis’ order that parents are to decide whether their children wear masks, not schools. As the COVID-19 Delta variant spreads throughout the state, at least seven Florida school districts in charge of over 1 million students defied DeSantis’ order as of Monday morning. “Because of the Delta variant, our schools are not safe and secure unless everyone wears a mask,” said Charles Dodson, a former judge who is representing the parents’ lawsuit....
Parents whose children attend Centner Academy received a letter from the school urging them to hold off until summer if they plan to have their children get vaccinated against the virus, WSVN reported. The letter said that if parents still get their children vaccinated, there will be a mandatory quarantine period. “Because of the potential impact on other students and our school community, vaccinated students will need to stay at home for 30 days post-vaccination for each dose and booster they receive and may return to school after 30 days as long as the student is healthy and symptom-free,” the letter said, according to WSVN....
Data collected by the American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in 2021 found that one in five pet owners had evacuated their homes due to a disaster or emergency, and nearly half had left at least one pet at home when they were evacuated. Officers were sent to the residence on Royal Palm Drive in Edgewater, Florida, for a well-being check on the three juveniles on Sunday night, the Edgewater Police Department said in a news release. When they arrived, officers located the three children—aged eight, nine and 10—as well as 245 animals, including four dogs, two cats and a tortoise, that had been badly neglected. The children were removed from the home by the Department of Children and Families and taken to stay with a responsible family member, the police department said....
Osmar Oliva, 50, and Johan Gonzalez Quesada, 26, were beaten, shot and dumped in the back yard of an abandoned house, the Miami-Dade Police Department said in a statement. In an arrest affidavit, police reported that on Thursday, May 20 near 11 p.m., Walsh attacked her boyfriend, 64-year-old Wayne Drost. Drost, who lived in an apartment with Walsh, was reportedly sitting on a couch when Walsh threw soiled dog pads at him. She then also sprayed him in the face with Windex, police said. Drost didn’t suffer any injuries from either attack, police said. However, Windex is a common glass cleaner that contains water, five chemicals and blue dye....
Tessa B. Lilly was allegedly caught in possession of meth shortly after 10 a.m. on November 7 when she entered the Kim C. Hammond Justice Center in Bunnell, Florida. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the 25-year-old triggered a metal detector in the courthouse and was asked to empty her property into a bucket. Police said she then removed a plastic baggie from her pocket and told officers that the substance inside was skin treatment makeup....
