After so much wrangling over what to do about the Democratic delegates from Florida and Michigan, things remain as inconclusive as ever. On Monday, the Florida Democratic party essentially threw its hands in the air and gave up on trying to arrange a do-over of the state’s primary. And yesterday, plans for a re-vote in Michigan suffered a potentially fatal setback. Where does that leave things? Negotiations are going on behind the scenes among the DNC, top advisers to the Obama and Clinton campaigns and the state parties, says a Democratic insider unaffiliated with either campaign....

Estefany Acosta, 24, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with aggravated battery on a child following an incident which allegedly took place at Early Learning Academy in Boca Raton on January 10. The young victim was 3 years old, NBC affiliate WFLA reported. Acosta worked at the school, located at 2300 West Yamato Road, from November 2019 until being let go from the role last week, an arrest affidavit said....

DeSantis made the remarks during an interview aired Tuesday by CBS affiliate WFOR. Reporter Jim DeFede asked the governor whether he believed the process was kept intentionally difficult to discourage people from filing claims. “I think that was the animating philosophy,” DeSantis replied. “I mean having studied how it was internally constructed, I think the goal was for whoever designed, it was, ‘Let’s put as many kind of pointless roadblocks along the way, so people just say, oh, the hell with it, I’m not going to do that....

Forecasters previously classified Isaias a Category 1 hurricane, but downgraded the designation to tropical storm ahead of its anticipated arrival along Florida’s eastern coast. Isaias traveled northwest toward Florida at 12 mph Saturday after initially making landfall in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Bahamas. “We’ll continue to monitor this but don’t be fooled by the downgrade,” DeSantis said during a news conference late Saturday. “We do think it will be upgraded back to a hurricane later on this evening....

The storm, which is currently classified as a tropical depression, is expected to grow in strength over the next couple of days to become a tropical storm by the time it hits Florida. U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom said in her ruling Tuesday that the law was racially motivated, and that supporters of the measure failed to show evidence that it was needed to lower crime. Bloom also said anti-immigrant hate groups such as Floridians for Immigration Enforcement were heavily involved with both the bill, SB 168, and its sponsor. “Allowing anti-immigrant hate groups that overtly promote xenophobic, nationalist, racist ideologies to be intimately involved in a bill’s legislative process is a significant departure from procedural norms,” Bloom wrote....

Police say that Ernest Ford, 62, shoved his live-in girlfriend to the floor during an argument in their mobile home in Villa Del Sol, Sarasota. According to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, the couple had lived together for seven years and had an argument about Trump’s impeachment on Friday night. The victim went to the back of the mobile home to confront Ford and “it was at that time the altercation became physical....

On Thursday, Reyes walked into a Chase Bank on State Road 436 in Casselberry, Florida, wearing a wig and a long gold dress, WFTV reported. Security footage captured inside the bank shows the 51-year-old walking up to one of the tellers and handing him something. According to Casselberry police, Reyes gave the teller a note saying that he was a carrying weapons in his bag and would use them if he wasn’t given money....

DeAngelo Clark, 30, was wanted earlier this month in connection of the homicide of 20-year-old Kiara Alleyne. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office were called to an address in 2241 NE 78th Lane in Anthony on September 11 by a member of the victim’s family who were concerned about her wellbeing. When officers arrived at the scene, they found her body. According to court documents, while Clark was stabbing his victim he and Alleyne’s father had a “strange conversation” over FaceTime, reports WESH....

Orange County police deputies arrested Jose Herrera, 27, on Monday. He had been held by Disney security after being caught while buying gift cards and jewelry at Disney Springs, Walt Disney World’s shopping center, with the stolen card, which is believed to have been taken from a deceased Ohio man. Herrera allegedly tried to eat the evidence of his crime, with officers witnessing him attempting to chomp down on the plastic before he could be questioned, according to a report from WKMG....

Mark Grenon was indicted by a federal grand jury in Miami on Friday, alongside his sons Jonathan Grenon, 34, Joseph Grenon, 32, and Jordan Grenon, 26, according to a news release from the Department of Justice. The men claimed that their “Miracle Mineral Solution” (MMS), which contains harmful industrial bleach, was a cure for COVID-19, cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and other serious illnesses. The Grenons sold the bleach for many years before the emergence of COVID-19, operating as the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, a self-described “non-religious church....

The hospital’s CEO said nurses are being lured away from their jobs to others states at double or triple the salary. Executive vice president Julie Staub said some nurses are also being lost to staffing agencies or pandemic burnout. “You are seeing folks chase the dollars,” she said. “If they have the flexibility to pick up and go somewhere else and live for a week, months, whatever and make more money, it is a very enticing thing to do....

Cases have jumped by 630 in the past day alone, according to data from the Florida Department of Health and The New York Times. On Thursday, the state reported 5,773 new cases, up from 5,143 the day before.
