On-site rescue headquarters have been set up as officials pumped out water on Thursday to reach the workers, whom rescuers have been unable to get to since the flood occurred around 3 a.m. Thursday, according to the Associated Press. Local reports say the incident happened in the Shijingshan tunnel on the Xingye expressway in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. The expressway runs through the city of Zhuhai and connects to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge....

Florida’s population of nearly 21.5 million is around 6.5 percent of the total U.S. population. But the state’s nearly 15,300 new infections Sunday formed over 24.9 percent of the nearly 61,400 new cases reported across the country that day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Sunday’s reported daily case count was Florida’s highest number recorded since the outbreak began. Over 86.3 percent of the state’s total confirmed cases were reported to be active cases (those currently being treated in hospitals or recovering at home), with 232,919 active cases recorded Sunday....

A video of the incident shared by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook shows a man stopping a white Dodge Journey close to where the girl was sitting on a patch of grass on Old Corry Field Road and Perdido Street at around 7 a.m. The surveillance video then showed the man exiting his car “reportedly armed with a knife,” according to the sheriff’s office, and grabbing the girl. A struggle ensued and the child managed to escape when the pair fell over onto the grass....

Alyssa Hatcher, 17, from Umatilla, is accused of two counts of criminal solicitation for murder following an investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives said they were contacted by another juvenile who said Hatcher had paid one of her friends “a lot of money” to find someone to kill her parents, according to the arrest affidavit. The investigation found the 17-year-old allegedly stole her parents’ debit cards to withdraw $503....

It is one of the bills to be discussed in the special legislative session started on Monday. According to the Tampa Bay Times, parents would get to decide if their children wear a mask or get the vaccine under the bill. To force school districts to comply, parents have the ability to sue, and if they win, they would be given attorneys’ fees and costs. The proposal was originally filed by state Senator Keith Perry on October 13 and considered for the 2022 legislative session before Republican Governor Ron DeSantis called the special legislative session, the Pensacola News Journal reported....

Daytona Beach resident Larry Darnell Adams, 61, was angered by people gathering and playing music outside of the apartment complex in which he lives at 424 N Charles Street. Daytona Beach Police Department was called out at around 1.15 a.m. on Monday. Two of the victims had left their apartment to speak to those having the party about keeping the noise down when Adams burst out of his home to confront the whole group....

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in a public Facebook post that Weitzel stole the car upon leaving a bar early Saturday morning. He told detectives that he couldn’t find his vehicle, so he stole someone else’s in a “good faith effort to locate his own.” Eventually, however, Weitzel found himself on the train tracks along Indian River Drive—a 13.7-mile stretch of road that connects Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach....

Security footage captured Lonnie Maddox, 52, nicknamed “The Rooster,” walking around outside the victim’s property on Thursday morning, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. Maddox was accompanied by Angel, a brown horse. As Angel wandered away, Maddox can be seen opening the property’s screened porch, before then attempting to unlock the front door. Maddox eventually decided the approach was futile and opted to enter through a back window, according to deputies....

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Clifton Anthony Bliss Jr., 58, first allegedly threatened to shoot the cat that belonged to his neighbor, James Arland Taylor Jr., 41. “Through their investigation, detectives learned that Bliss became angry when his neighbor’s cat had entered his property. Bliss then retrieved a firearm and threatened to shoot the cat,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook on Thursday. “The owner of the cat, James Arland Taylor Jr....

Paul Bedard—who stars in the Animal Planet show “Gator Boys”—later posted a picture of himself in the pool on Instagram triumphantly holding the gator above his head, WFLA reported. In Gator Boys, Bedard and his colleague Gabby Scampone trap nuisance alligators which are found in people’s backyards, pools, garages and houses. Any that are captured are then taken by the team to the Everglades Holiday Park. Bedard said that he got a call in the morning from a homeowner who said that an alligator had walked into their swimming pool....

In an open letter sent to governors and mayors after the House of Representatives approved the $1.9 trillion stimulus bill, Scott called the legislation “massive, wasteful and non-targeted.” He then urged states to send a message to Congress to “quit recklessly spending other people’s money.” “By rejecting and returning any unneeded funds, as well as funds unrelated to COVID-19, you would be taking responsible action to avoid wasting scarce tax dollars,” Scott wrote in the letter....
