King, 16, was pointing what turned out to be an air rifle at passing cars in Tarpon Springs when police officers were called. King pointed the rifle at the first police responder, and he repeatedly refused officers’ orders to put down the weapon. The airsoft rifle appeared to be a deadly weapon except for a “faded orange tip” that officers could not distinguish from a distance, according to Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney Bruce Bartlett....

Charquez Giles, 26, and Latonia Clemons, 36, are accused of third-degree felony murder, aggravated manslaughter of a child and neglect of a child after their 1-year-old daughter died on July 10. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the child’s paternal aunt found the girl on her doorstep in a car seat with no one else around after receiving a knock at her front door. The aunt said she received a call from family members advising that the girl needed medical attention....

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reported that the girl then dashed away and rejoined her other juvenile friends at the county fairgrounds in Naples. The sheriff’s office reported that after the 14-year-old punched the man, who was there with his family, the teenager laughed while running away. Judge Jared E. Smith of the Hillsborough County Circuit Court ruled that the girl, identified in court documents as “Jane Doe,” wasn’t mature enough to receive a “judicial bypass.” The bypass would allow Doe to receive an abortion without her parents’ approval. In his ruling, Smith wrote that Doe had said that she makes B grades in school. However, she has a 2.0 GPA, which denotes an overall average consisting of C grades, Vice News reported....

Andrew Chickoree, 52, was detained by the New Port Richey Police Department Tuesday on one count of sexual battery and one count of battery, law enforcement officials said. The investigation was conducted alongside officers from the Zephyrhills Police Department. Chickoree was previously employed as a technician specialising in administering sleep studies at labs in New Port Richey and Zephyrhills, Florida. Investigators said female victims alleged Chickoree had touched them in a “sexual manner....

Mark Johnson, 61, was walking his golden retriever Rex close to the bank of a canal in Port St. Lucie last Sunday when the gator lunged from the water and took him by surprise, clamping down on the bottom of his right leg, TCPalm reported. According to the victim, the animal’s powerful jaws grabbed hold of his leg after his foot slipped on a muddy bank. He said it tried to drag him under the water and only loosened its grip after he made the split-second decision to gouge its eye....

Ty Kelley, 55, was arrested on suspicion of petty theft after allegedly taking a $6.98 bottle of Barefoot Riesling wine on the afternoon of August 14. Kelley is accused of hiding the bottle inside his pants and walking into the store’s bathroom to drink it all, according to an affidavit seen by WTSB. He then threw the empty bottle in the trash and attempted to leave the store without paying....

According to investigators, Herbig allegedly drove from Florida to his estranged wife’s home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In the front seat of his vehicle, which was found in front of the victim’s house, was a journal that detailed Herbig’s plan. Herbig carried no cellphone to avoid GPS tracking. He used only cash, stayed away from toll roads and only shopped in small stores so security cameras wouldn’t record him. Investigators say Herbig also had with him, among other things, disguises, garbage bags, zip ties and a large wrench....

State Republican lawmakers across the country have pushed for major election reforms and restrictions following President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election, as well as Democrats narrowly flipping control of the Senate.
