As previously reported by Newsweek, The Saturday Alaska Airlines flight was diverted to Juneau after a group of five passengers refused to follow flight attendant instructions regarding mask usage onboard. Wednesday’s figure was the state’s highest daily case count since the outbreak began, surpassing the state’s previous record set nearly a week ago, with 4,600 new cases reported Saturday. Eric Harris was arrested by the Tampa Police Department at his home on August 31 and now faces a charge of felony animal cruelty. According to Tampa Police, Harris had an argument with his girlfriend of six months on August 21 over her two pet cats. The former couple had recently moved in together to a Tampa apartment, but Harris was upset over his girlfriend’s pets defecating on the apartment floor and climbing onto counters and furniture....
Police were alerted to the incident at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Pensacola on Tuesday morning, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office told Newsweek. Another employee had called authorities after walking in on the suspect “actively engaging in sexual activity with a corpse.” A spokesperson for the force said that the suspect had fled the property by the time officers arrived at the funeral home. Later that morning, while still attempting to locate the suspect, police were alerted to a possible dead body at the intersection of North Blue Angel Parkway and Alekai Drive on the western outskirts of the city, approximately a 10-minute drive from the funeral home....
Since the Florida primary in March, 344,465 people have newly registered as Republicans, while the Democrats have added just 197,821, according to Dave Wasserman, U.S. House editor of the non-partisan Cook Political Report. However, as Wasserman points out, figures show that 37 percent of Florida voters are registered as Democrats and 36 percent as Republicans heading into November. Twenty-seven percent of Florida voters are now registered as no party affiliation (NPA) or other - the same percentage as in 2016....
Donald Allen Moran, 55, of Pensacola, was booked by deputies from Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at roughly 10:10 p.m. on charges of battery and arson, jail records show. He is also accused of targeting another man after starting the blaze, allegedly slapping him on the face. Police responded to reports of a fire at the 8000 block of Gregg Road and found Moran and the male victim—who has not been named—in a front yard....
Authorities say Timothy Kepke, 27, and Noah Osborne, 22, were both arrested Thursday after enacting the scheme in Palm City, Florida. The men were charged with one count each of unlawfully taking an alligator, a felony. According to the report, Kepke says Osborne had caught the alligator at 10 p.m. on August 26 in Palm City. He apparently took the animal from the side of a road with his bare hands....
The incident was captured in a video that was shared widely online, showing 36-year-old Nicholas Arnold Schock half naked with his shorts falling off as he yells angrily. Law & Crime first reported on the incident, noting that the video was captured in the city of Nokomis in Sarasota County, Florida. When reached for comment, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s office told Newsweek that it had no further information on the arrest beyond a Probable Cause Affidavit (PCA), which the office sent by email....
Gabriel Vertiz, 39, was arrested on Thursday at a construction site in Hillsborough County, Florida, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Vertiz is accused of abusing two girls under the age of 13 who are both “known and familiar” to him, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said Vertiz is accused of sexually abusing one of the victims more than once. “He is accused of sexually abusing the juvenile by binding her with tape and touching her inappropriately on more than one occasion” in that case, the sheriff’s office said....
