The Amber Alert was first issued on Thursday night after Ripley was abducted from his mother’s car. Its single-day totals, which exceeded 8,500 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, were higher than those reported by almost every other U.S. state since the start of the virus pandemic. Only New York, once the epicenter of the nation’s outbreak, has confirmed more than 8,500 cases on a single day. According to data from The New York Times as of Monday, the sunshine state saw a 185 percent increase in average daily COVID-19 cases over the last 14 days. It now records on average 1,941 cases a day. This compares to a nationwide increase in average daily COVID infections of 43 percent over the last two weeks. On average, it is seeing 1,404 people hospitalized with COVID-19 each day, according to the New York Times data....

FMA issued their statement from president Ronald L. Giffler encouraging the regulations on Friday. “In response to a dramatic increase in COVID-19 cases, the Florida Medical Association (FMA) the state’s largest physician organization, encourages local officials to adopt regulations requiring individuals to wear face coverings in public places,” Giffler wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. The Florida doctors’ association issued its recommendation in response to the rise in coronavirus numbers in the state....

On October 14, 30-year-old Terry Majors of Pinellas County, Florida was arrested and charged with exposure of sexual organs, a misdemeanor. He was released on October 15 on his own recognizance. According to an arrest report, Majors called 911 because he was experiencing shortness of breath. Once the EMT crew arrived, Majors removed his clothing and began masturbating with an ice pack, “in the presence of first responders,” according to police....

The victim, who has not been named, fell from roughly 15 feet outside his home in the 700 block of Suzette Drive, Ocoee, on Monday afternoon. The man, who was reportedly not using a ladder at the time, had been trying to get into position to cut tree branches, WKMG reported. The Ocoee Fire Department and paramedics responded to the home shortly after 6:20 p.m., and the man was rushed to the nearby Health Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead....

Timothy Alan Farmer, of New Port Richey, was detained by officers from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office after using his vehicle to ram into the Riverbank Drive residence. A woman who was in the home was not injured during the incident. Bodycam video obtained and published by the Tampa Bay Times showed officers confronting Farmer as he sat in the front seat of his truck, a white Ford Explorer. “I’m tired of these people,” the man can be heard saying....

The person who discovered the body, a resident of Windmill Manor Mobile Home Park, said that his friend had asked him to store the trash can in his carport. He believed the can to be filled with his friend’s “personal items.” However, when the can began to emit a foul smell, the man opened it and found “a wrapped human body in the advance stage of decomposition,” according to the Herald-Tribune....

The homeowner on the 100 block of Margaret Drive grappled with the gator after his chocolate Labrador jumped into a canal behind the residence after being let outside. The man, who has not yet been identified by Florida media outlets or wildlife officials, entered the water after spotting his dog was being attacked—and dragged his pet to safety after prying open the gator’s mouth. Luckily, the Labrador and its courageous owner were not seriously hurt....

Gregory Carolton Bush, 23, told Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies that he tried to potty train his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son at their home in the small suburban city of Port Richey. Bush forced him to sit on the toilet for five hours, arrests reports show. The victim told police the defendant threatened to “whoop his ass.” Officials discovered bruises on the child’s hips, upper thigh and buttocks after the incident on Tuesday....

The rain had just stopped when the convenience store clerk asked the customer not to heat up his urine in the microwave. The customer explained that the urine he was heating wasn’t his. Which meant it was Florida. A previous one started like this: The sun was going down behind the Big Burger when the alligator came flying in the drive-through window. This is not fiction. In the first case, law enforcement detected an unpleasant trend....

Todd Mahon, 51, was arrested by Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies and charged with disorderly intoxication after police received a complaint at roughly 10:30 p.m. on Saturday saying he was seen aggressively yelling at the performer close to a local nightclub called Blur. An 11-year-old child who had been performing alongside the impersonator that night was in the crowd that witnessed the altercation, WFLA reported, citing a police arrest report. Officers said Mahon accused the pop star imitator of helping to promote Jackson’s alleged child abuse....

At least 432 manatees have died in the state so far this year, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). This stands in stark contrast to the 637 manatee deaths in all of 2020 and the annual average of 578 deaths between 2016 and 2020. Many of the deaths have been in the northern Indian River Lagoon, which is a “central hub” for the marine mammals, Patrick Rose, executive director of the Save the Manatee Club, told the Tampa Bay Times....

“Now every day is over 10,000 [new infections],” Hernandez told CNN in an interview. “It’s almost like the norm. State hospitals are at full capacity. I spoke to two or three large hospitals in our city late last night. Two of them have canceled non-emergency surgeries, and they’re really, really at the point—it’s a breaking point.” He went on, “It’s a breaking point now, we’re at a critical stage.” The mayor said Governor Ron DeSantis should issue a statewide mask mandate and urged a united approach to combating the virus’s spread....
