The Florida Department of Health issued an emergency suspension order (ESO) for the registered pharmacy technician license of Katrina Fahlberg. Fahlberg, who gained the license in June 2013, worked at Genoa Healthcare in Lake City, Florida, the Miami Herald reported. She admitted to other employees that she had started stealing bottles of tramadol—a pain medication that is sold under the brand name Ultram—in August 2018, the ESO said. “Ms. Fahlberg admitted that she took the bottles of tramadol off the shelf, poured out five to ten tablets, and consumed them,” the ESO said....

ABC News affiliate Local 10 reported Monday Florida made a request for 300 ventilators on Friday “to replace expended state stores.” The order was scheduled to arrive Monday, though it was not clear how the ventilators would be allocated across the state. The request comes as Florida has been reporting a sharp rise in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, largely due to the highly contagious Delta variant that has been sweeping through unvaccinated populations....

State public health data released on March 1 revealed that half of Florida’s COVID-19 cases were found in people under the age of 39—but that median age has now fallen to 35. Health care workers across the state say that several infectious mutations of the virus have been found, including the so-called “British strain,” which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) discovered among 1,042 people. The CDC noted Monday that Florida does not publish real-time information regarding coronavirus variants and that most data reflect a vast under-count of cases....

The 90-day mask mandate passed Friday with a 3-2 vote, WWSB-TV reported. The mandate applies to all students, staff, vendors and parents. Only medical exemptions will be permitted. The mandate will be lifted if the COVID-19 positivity rate drops below 8 percent. At the end of the 90 days, if the positivity rate remains above 10 percent, the mandate will be reinstated. In a statement to Newsweek, DeSantis’ office said, “It is disappointing that any school district would violate Florida law by reversing its mask policy, which had previously protected parents’ rights and complied with state law by offering an opt-out provision....

Images of crowded Florida beaches have circulated widely in news reports and online, with many criticizing young “spring breakers” and other beachgoers for disregarding social distancing recommendations issued by the White House and health experts due to the growing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, who took office last year, refused to close down the beaches to the public. “Individuals need to take responsibility and every level of government has got to be very clear: Don’t be on the beach unless you can somehow be completely by yourself,” Scott, who preceded DeSantis as Florida’s governor, said in a Thursday morning interview with CNN....

On Tuesday, they filed a claim for benefits under Missouri’s workers’ compensation laws on behalf of Yap-Banago’s husband of 34 years Amado Banago and their two sons—Jhulan, 28 and Joshua, 26....

Channing Smith of Manchester, Tennessee fatally shot himself Sunday night after Coffee County Central High School classmates posted a screenshot of revealing text messages between Smith and another boy on Instagram and Snapchat, his family says. Channing’s mother, Crystal Smith told news station WKRN that “posting one little picture can destroy somebody’s life.” “You can’t understand it.
