With that in mind, here are the best fantasy football pickups you should consider grabbing off the waiver wire before Week 1. MORE: 2015 fantasy football rankings | Week 1 rankings | Fantasy draft cheat sheet Best fantasy football pickups Christine Michael, RB, Cowboys. The Cowboys decided to take a flier on Michael, and so should fantasy owners. Sure, he’s buried on the Cowboys depth chart just like he was in Seattle, but there’s no obvious roadblock like Marshawn Lynch in Dallas....

Don’t wait until under-the-radar sleepers go off this weekend and then get outbid by a squad with more FAAB or a higher waiver priority. Instead, anticipate the breakouts, recognize your Week 9 needs, and grab the best available options for those slates for free right here and now. We featured Baltimore’s Gus Edwards for weeks and highlighted Juwan Johnson last week, and those guys combined for nearly 40 PPR points and turned into waiver-wire frenzies Tuesday....

It’s reasonable to expect T.J. Yeldon, Phillip Lindsay, and Austin Ekeler to be claimed on waivers, but the rest of the guys on our full free agent list are probably better off as free agent adds. Of course, a few antsy owners will go all-in for a breakout receiver or maybe even a tight end if they just lost Delanie Walker or Greg Olsen, but most owners can probably sit out this waiver period and wait for the injuries to pile up in the coming weeks....

Matchup-wise, things are pretty good for the “usual” QB1s. Kirk Cousins (vs. Broncos) is the biggest red flag – with Aaron Rodgers (vs. Vikings) joining him if he plays (UPDATE: Rodgers is out) – but chances are your normal starting QB will be good to go. Even some of the tougher matchups on paper, like Dak Prescott vs. Seattle or Matthew Stafford at Cincinnati aren’t as bad as they look when you factor in injuries and recent play for the those defenses....

Unless you worried about handcuffing C.J. Anderson with Charles or getting a stranglehold on targets in Cleveland with Britt, there isn’t much to be excited about. Melvin Gordon’s nagging knee issues makes Oliver an intriguing option, but chances are, most owners will opt to save their waiver claim and instead dig through the rubble in free agency. The good news is there are several streamable D/STs this week, plus a bunch of tight end fill-ins if you’re still dealing with injuries or just looking for a matchup-based option....

If that’s the case, then every lineup decision, even kicker, is important. Unfortunately, kicker is probably the most difficult position for which to plan, so we can only help you so much. Heading into this week, several players stand out based on matchups, including lower-owned guys like Brett Maher (@ Jets), Brandon McManus (vs. Lions), Mason Crosby (vs. Bears), and Graham Gano (vs. Chargers). Unfortunately, none get the benefit of playing indoors this week (though McManus gets a slight bump being in Denver’s thin air)....
