Christopher Sutton, 36, of Tampa Bay, has been charged with battery following the incident outside the Woody’s club in Islamorada on the evening of July 11. Officers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were called at around 11:53 p.m. following reports of a disturbance outside the venue. When police arrived at the scene, they found a 31-year-old male victim. He told officers that he was walking home from work when he heard a man yelling and swearing at a woman....

The man has been identified by police and local media as James Blight. Local Florida television network Spectrum Bay News 9 reported that Blight allegedly tore down Biden signs and also knocked over a speed limit sign with the bulldozer. Some local residents have described the incident as a “hate crime,” due to the demographics of the neighborhood. Police have said that Blight claimed to be drunk and said he does not remember the incident....

Daniel Christopher Booth, 36, was working at the solar plant on Hogan Road near Wellborn, Florida, on Wednesday, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Facebook. Booth had warrants for his arrest from Baker County for selling methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office said, so a sheriff’s deputy was sent to the plant to arrest him. But when the deputy arrived, Booth ran away and tried to hide from K9 teams in a pond—but his action movie antics didn’t quite go to plan....

Greyzie Miller, 31, of Jacksonville gave birth to her daughter, Evie, via an emergency C-section on July 18, a week after being admitted to the hospital with the virus, WJXT reports. The board’s mandate defies a July 30 executive order signed by the state’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis that bans schools from issuing such mandates. Over the last two weeks, 1,475 students have reportedly contracted COVID-19, according to the school board’s COVID-19 pandemic dashboard. Additionally, 538 school staff members have contracted the virus. On Tuesday, the county school board reported that some 8,400 students and 307 employees were either in isolation or quarantine due to possible COVID-19 exposure....

Woods issued the order on Tuesday and extended the ban on face coverings to visitors of the sheriff’s office. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released Tuesday that Florida hospitals had 11,515 COVID-19 patients, an increase from the previous record from the day before of 10,389. The Florida Hospital Association used the data to track admissions and staffing shortages. The figures show that 2,400 of their COVID-19 patients are in intensive care units. Earlier today, the U.S. Capitol was placed under lockdown and surrounding areas were evacuated as authorities investigated a “suspicious vehicle.” Evacuated buildings included the Supreme Court, the James Madison Memorial Building and Thomas Jefferson Building, both part of the Library of Congress, and the Cannon House Office Building. Congress is currently on a scheduled recess, but some staffers were still present in various offices around Capitol Hill Thursday. The Capitol Police advised people to steer clear from the area and said on Twitter that a suspect parked his vehicle near the Library of Congress, and added that they are still investigating the situation....
