Wacky things always happen in Week 16, whether it’s some no-name going for 200-plus yards or one of your studs putting up a goose-egg or getting suspended (looking at you, Odell Beckham Jr.). It’s easy to overanalyze the matchups and try to get cute with your lineup decisions, but at most positions, the key is to not take any unnecessary chances. Of course, that won’t stop us from filling your head with fear about stars like Todd Gurley, Sammy Watkins, A....

As we’ve talked about before, bye weeks make it tough to trade, especially with injuries piling up. What does help is we have a better grasp of matchups right now, so you can plot out the favorable and unfavorable opponents in a player’s future. Not only should you look at a player’s overall outlook, but you should also look at specific weeks. If you know your team is in trouble because of byes/tough matchups in, say, Week 9, then finding someone with an extremely favorable matchup that week might boost their value even more for you....

As always, the outlook for a lot of D/STs comes down to matchups, but, again, how much stock do we put into Week 1? It’s entirely possible that a bad offense just happened to play well (Jets?) and a good offense played poorly (Broncos?). For instance, Ben Roethlisberger (returning from a serious injury), Stefon Diggs (out-of-nowhere breakout player), and Dexter McCluster (waiver-wire pickup with a good matchup) are three very different types of players, but all are among our Week 8 sleeper picks. There are exceptions to every rule, though, and the Colts’ Frank Gore may fit that bill in 2015. Even at 31, Gore played 16 games in 2014, carrying the rock 255 times and averaging 4.3 yards per tote. The Colts probably won’t get the offensive-line production that the ‘Niners provided, but an increase in volume should offset any drop in rushing average.
