Cody Bellinger, Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt and Pete Alonso make up our top four, and even though Bellinger stands above the rest after an MVP campaign that included a .303 average and 15 SBs last year, there isn’t a huge difference between them. We’re betting on a slight power regression from Alonso and a bounce-back in average for Goldschmidt, whose .303 BABIP last year was 45 points below his career average....

The “new blood” includes last year’s breakout Austin Riley, former top-overall pick Spencer Torkelson and second-overall pick Bobby Witt Jr., and the post-hype Ke’Bryan Hayes. While Torkelson and Witt are complete unknown quantities in the majors, there’s at least a little bit of a book on most of the other potential sleepers. So, if you’re hoping to pinpoint the next batch of fantasy baseball steals, this lineup made up entirely of sleepers is a good place to start. Each carries risk of not panning out, but at least a couple should enjoy breakout campaigns that change the landscape of your fantasy league. Unfortunately, most of the out of position players this season have gone the wrong direction. This can cost you loads of points throughout the season as a midfielder listed as a forward will lose a point for both every goal and every clean sheet that their team keeps. While the “buy-low, sell-high” theme still applies, finding the right players to target is really more about future matchups. That can coincide with recent performances, but it doesn’t have to. For instance, David Montgomery, who’s mentioned below, hasn’t been particularly good lately, is dealing with a concussion that will keep him out of Week 10, and has a bye in Week 11. However, his schedule after that is ultra-favorable, so if you have to overpay a little to get him, it might be worth it....
