Police from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were alerted to a hunting accident involving an 11-year-old girl near Young and Hickey Road, in Hallsville, at about 5:05 p.m. on November 27, KMHT Radio reported. The father of the two-month-old babies—a boy and a girl—said he found them unresponsive at The Landing, a hotel-turned-homeless shelter in the East Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens, on Friday, CBS New York reported. The babies were found unconscious in the lobby of the building after police responded to the call at around 3.40 p.m., a New York Police Department spokesman told Newsweek. The babies were taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where they were both pronounced dead....

The 75-year-old man paid an assailant €2,500 in April to attack his 43-year-old son and his partner, as well as to damage the couple’s car. But the plot apparently fell through when the hitman told the intended victim, who is a surgeon. “My son is a thug, break his fingers,” the father allegedly told the hired attacker. Italian media reported that the retired defendant was also accused of assaulting his wife, from whom he had separated after more than 40 years of marriage....

In the 10 days following the official announcement from the FDA, the U.S. administered 8,848,828 vaccines, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Comparably, in the 10 days leading up to the announcement, 8,489,839 vaccines were administered across the nation, indicating that vaccinations only increased by four percent following the FDA’s decision, an analysis by Newsweek found. Vivjoa, which is a brand name for oral oteseconazole capsules, is designed for females with a history of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) who are infertile or post-menopausal. This is the first medication of its kind to treat chronic yeast infections. The drug will be available through a prescription. RVVC, which is also known as chronic yeast infection, is defined as having three or more symptomatic acute episodes of a yeast infection within 12 months....

The FDA granted marketing authorization for an implant to repair the injury. The Bridge-Enhanced ACL Repair (BEAR) Implant is an alternative to ACL reconstruction, which typically requires harvesting tendons—and sometimes bone—from another part of the patient’s body or a deceased donor. It can also be done via sutures, a medical device used to hold body tissues together. The new implant instead is made of proteins that are an integral part of the healing process, Braden Fleming, PhD, a professor of orthopedics at Brown University involved in the research, tells Verywell....

The drug, Actemra (tocilizumab), can be used for patients who are receiving steroids, supplemental oxygen, mechanical ventilation, or prolonged cardiac and respiratory support. In clinical trials, Actemra helped reduce mechanical ventilation and shorten hospitalization time. It lowered risks of death by about 5%. “This is a drug best utilized in patients who are severely ill,” Jason Gallagher, PharmD, a clinical pharmacy specialist in infectious diseases at Temple University Hospital, writes to Verywell....
