Stanley Alred Lawton, 54, and Shaniya Nicole Poche-Lawton, 22, were arrested in connection to the vicious assault. He was arrested Wednesday and his daughter was taken into custody on Thursday. Military police on a routine patrol outside of Edwards Air Force Base on Wednesday found the victim alive, reports KABC. The FBI is investigating the abduction with Los Angeles County and Las Vegas police. The woman, reported to be in her 40s, was cold and suffering from the elements when she was discovered....

Khizr Khan’s comments came as he rebuked comments made by Donald Trump Jr. in his new book, adding that the Trump family has “no idea what service and sacrifice is.” Khan joined a number of veterans who criticized the book after the president’s son likened the financial sacrifice he claimed his family made when his father decided to run for office to the sacrifice made by U.S. service members killed in war....

Monkeypox continues to spread around the world, with nearly 17,000 cases reported globally as of July 22, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Over the weekend, the virus was declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO). The surge in monkeypox cases has caused concern since it marks the first time the virus has ever spread significantly outside of West and Central Africa, where it is endemic....

In an interview on PBS’ Amanpour and Company on Wednesday, journalist Walter Isaacson asked Fauci why he believes Trump has said the country is doing well on testing and the disease compared with other countries. The data on the pandemic paints a different picture. According to Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. is the country with the most confirmed cases, at 4.8 million of the total 18.8 million. The country has also recorded the most deaths, at over 158,000 of more than 707,700 worldwide....

The former federal prosecutor and NBC News/MSNBC legal analyst told MSNBC’s Yasmin Vossoughian on Thursday that the agency should welcome a probe by the FBI if the Secret Service “really did nothing wrong.” The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) has begun a criminal investigation into the potential deletion of text messages and told the Secret Service to cease any internal investigations on the matter....

The FCC voted Tuesday to end its blackout rule, which prevented games of any sport from being televised in the home team’s market if certain tickets aren’t sold in time. But the NFL, which has opposed the notion, isn’t expected to lift its blackout policy. The NFL has used the policy to bait fans into buying tickets to see the game in person since they can’t watch on TV. The FCC’s movement does not guarantee the end of such a strategy, but it does express a lack of support....

The FDA initially approved rimegepant (Nurtec ODT) for acute use—to treat an existing migraine—in February of last year. On May 27, the FDA extended this approval for use in preventing migraines. This marks an important advance in treating and managing migraine headaches, Merle Diamond, MD, medical director of the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago, tells Verywell. “We have many new tools in our toolbox, and having a medication like Nurtec, which works great to get rid of an acute headache but also adds the benefit to be preventative," she says....

On September 25, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Nucala (mepolizumab) for the treatment of HES in people 12 and older. Specifically, Nucala is indicated for those who’ve experienced HES for six months or longer. What Are Hypereosinophilic Syndromes? HES blood disorders are characterized by high levels of eosinophils, which are disease-fighting white blood cells. According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, most healthy people have less than 500 eosinophils/microliter in their blood....

“The imminent Phase 2 study start is a crucial step forward as we continue to advance the clinical development of mRNA-1273, our vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2,” said Stéphane Bancel, Moderna’s chief executive officer, in a statement. The company expects the upcoming trial, which will involve 600 participants, to begin shortly. In addition to confirming clearance for Phase 2, Moderna’s statement shared a timeline for ongoing plans to test, license and eventually distribute its vaccine....
