As we saw last week, sometimes backup players can play reasonably well. Still, when a second- or third-string QB is under center, we want to pick on those offenses. It’s not a shock to see those players perform well for a series or two when everything is scripted, but they often wear down as the game goes on. All we need from our D/STs to pay off is one big play, so we’ll take our chances....

The Bengals (@ Jets), Chargers (vs. Patriots), Seahawks (vs. Jaguars), Eagles (@ Lions), and Bears (vs. 49ers) lead our list of potential streamers who are widely available in most leagues. Some of those teams are extremely risky – namely, the Seahawks and Eagles – but given the matchups, they all have some big-play, boom-or-bust upside. The Patriots, Jets, and Jaguars entered Week 7 in the top five in fantasy points per game (FPPG) allowed to D/STs, and the Lions ranked 10th....

The Fantasy Source staff will keep tabs on the important Week 8 injuries. Rams WR Brian Quick was carted off the field with an apparent left arm injury. UPDATE: Quick suffered a dislocated left shoulder and torn rotator cuff. He’s expected to miss the rest of the season. Kenny Britt and Stedman Bailey project as the Rams’ top two receivers going forward. Ravens WR Torrey Smith walked off the field very gingerly with some help from the training staff and went to the locker room....

Whether you pick first or 12th in Round 17, there isn’t much difference in what return you can expect. At the most, it’s two points per week, a gap that can be quickly bridged by midseason replacements. And we’re versatile, too. You already know Jeremy Langford is set to take over for the injured Matt Forte, but fellow rookie David Cobb has a favorable matchup of his own that could give him value ( Update: Cobb will not be activated this week ). The Chargers need someone to step up for Keenan Allen, so we offer up not one but two high-percentage fill-ins. The recently traded Vernon Davis is an intriguing option in Denver, while the Saints’ and Falcons’ D/STs figure to feast on struggling offenses....

Usage/production trends and a new set of favorable/unfavorable matchups affect lineup decisions every week, but the biggest issue will always be injuries. There are plenty of big ones set to affect Week 5 lineups, starting with Javonte Williams’ season-ending ACL tear and Jonathan Taylor’s worrisome ankle issue. Beyond those, Keenan Allen (hamstring), Alvin Kamara (ribs), D’Andre Swift (shoulder), David Montgomery (knee, ankle), Michael Thomas (toe), Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), Jakobi Meyers (knee), Hunter Renfrow (concussion), Daniel Jones (ankle), and Jameis Winston (back) are all dealing with ailments that could keep them out, and you know more injuries will pop up later in the week....

Just in time for the first four-team bye of the season, our full free agent list has a ton of D/ST streamers (at the end of the list) and several potential one-week fill-ins at TE. We also have some QBs worth considering this week (spoiler alert so you don’t think it’s a mistake: Yes, Eli Manning is supposed to be on the list), as well as our usual bounty of potential WR3s (many, like Valdes-Scantling, getting opportunities because of injuries)....

Last week, we hit on all three of our sleeper defenses (Chargers, Broncos, Bengals), and we would’ve correctly called all three tight ends if Ricky Seals-Jones didn’t steal Jermaine Gresham’s thunder (Tyler Kroft, Marcedes Lewis were the other two). We also hit on Jamaal Williams, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Amari Cooper, and Danny Amendola. This week, we’re banking on some returning players to put up back-to-back solid weeks, like Kroft and the Chargers D/ST, and new players on the list, like Marcus Mariota and Corey Davis to break out....

The Eagles, Chiefs and Jaguars will likely bench their starters, but in a weird twist of fate, that’s actually a good, bad, and neutral thing for TEs. First, the good thing is the Eagles will likely rest Zach Ertz (not good for Ertz-owners), but both Trey Burton and Brent Celek have shined when Ertz doesn’t play. That’s two new streamers possibilties out of the blue. For now, we list Ertz in the rankings, but we’ve ranked both Burton and Celek as if Ertz isn’t there....

Owners of Jimmy Graham, Tyler Kroft and Jason Witten will have to turn elsewhere for TEs due to the bye week, and Clay owners will most definitely have to turn elsewhere due to his knee injury (out multiple weeks), even with his team on bye. Some possible streamer options for these owners – and everyone else, too – include David Njoku, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Ed Dickson and George Kittle. Many tight ends still live that touchdown-or-die life in fantasy, but based on matchups and recent success, we’ve pieced together the Week 6 TE rankings....
